She was born on March 29, 1985, in Roswell New Mexico. Gerina Michel Mendoza was her birth name. Gerina Stevenson, the child of Mexican parentage Rita Stevenson and Alan Stevenson. She has Mexican heritage as well as an American of the nationality. Since she was a child she's always had the need to play athletics. Gerina started playing golf when she was 15 years old. Gerina completed her high school studies in Goddard High School. She was the winner of the state championship golf tournament in New Mexico. Along with her volleyball game, she participated on state-level. She was enrolled at the University of Texas, Texas in 2003. As a senior, she won every tournament she competed in. In her college career, she received the honor of being named Conference USA individual champion player of the year, and was named UTEP Female Athlete of the Year.
